Imogen & Cortney | LJ LOVERS

Born and raised along Australian coastlines, professional surfers Imogen and Cortney Brown first met through their shared love for the ocean. After love at first sight it was only natural that 10 years later the couple would go on to have one of the most beautiful and relaxed coastal weddings we ever did see. Continue reading about their special day below.

Let’s start at the beginning how did you two meet?
We met through our mutual love for the ocean. Cortney happened to frequent the rural sheep station/surf camp I was raised on which was located along the borders of the Indian Ocean (home to some of the best waves). I always knew of Cortney and his surfing career, but the minute I laid my eyes on him in the flesh it was love at first sight. It’s a strange feeling, I just knew. Cortney says he found me in the desert, barefoot, kicking rocks along a dirt road.

It is truly such a spectacular location for a coastal wedding, can you tell us a little more about this special place?
I am lucky enough to call this beautiful place my home, where I grew up and where I have the fondest of memories. I always knew I would be married here, even though it was a logistical nightmare (no power, running water, flushing toilet or shower facilities and 2 hours from the nearest town) but it was all so worth it.

The dress! Imogen, what made you say yes to the dress? We saw you had two different looks for the day of celebrations, tell us more.
My dress was co-designed by myself and Bowie Rae, a beautiful lady and stunning designer from the East Coast. It was during Covid that we created these pieces so with no option but to send the garments via post and do virtual fittings was a challenge, but it worked out beautifully.

Choosing a wedding band is such a symbolic experience. Can you tell us why you choose the Petite Venus Ring and added a Hidden Inlay Stone?
I fell in love with the Venus Ring, particularly the petite version - Petite Venus Ring, as I feel like it suits my slender fingers without overcrowding my hand. I have always felt that less is more, let the natural beauty shine. The hidden inlay stone (an aquamarine) is a perfect personalised touch that reminds me of the ocean, my other love.

Your little Rambo truly melted our hearts when looking through your wedding photos, do you have any advice for the brides to be with little ones?
Don’t have too much of a “plan” around the littler ones and their role, temperamental toddlers are unpredictable but no matter how they behave they are going to steal the show!

Any standout vendors or any favourite wedding details you would highly recommend?
Our best mate Nicholas Morris catered, open fire style with a lamb al asador and an abundance of chargrilled produce and fresh seafood. My darling girlfriend Ellen transported and assembled a two-tier cake for 6.5 hours in an esky. My dad and his station hand-built every piece of furniture, the bar, the altar, and the kitchen.. and my gorgeous sister-in-law Dominique arranged the flowers and styling. I can’t thank my friends and family enough. Home Bodii dressed all of my beautiful bridesmaids in divine personalised robes. Alex Marks our photographer travelled across Aus and drove 12 hours to be with us on our special day.

What were some of your favourite moments from the day?
Being surrounded by all of our loved ones, my sister’s drawn-out boozy speech and walking home at 3 am barefoot, husband trailing behind..cake on one hip and baby on the other!
