Production Timeline

DESIGN

Step 1: Establishing the design and stone sourcing

Once you have selected your design and diamond, we are ready to transform your concept into creation. The manufacturing timeline to craft your piece will take 8 to 12 weeks for our Signature Process, and 6 to 9 weeks for our Bespoke Process.

It is important to keep these timeframes in mind prior to locking in any plans, providing yourself as much time as possible in the design and sourcing phase whilst allowing for the manufacturing timeline.

DEVELOPMENT (1-3 WEEKS)

Step 2: Computer-aided design (Signature Process only)

Once a design has been chosen, your piece will move into the modelling process. This stage involves constructing your design using Computer Aided Designing (CAD) technology. You will be presented with CAD render for approval or to make any final adjustments. This process can take anywhere between 1 to 3 weeks and can vary subject to the current volume of orders.

PRODUCTION (3-5 WEEKS)

Step 3: Printing the ring

Once the CAD design file is created, your piece moves into printing, alternatively known as the ‘growing’ phase. Specific 3D printing technology is used to create a resin or wax model of your design. The model is inspected and compared to the CAD design to ensure an accurate reproduction and casting.

Step 4: Moulding

The resin or wax model is attached to a sprue, which is then attached to the main stem to form a tree. The stem and sprue will be the channel for which the molten metal will enter the mould. The tree is made up of many individual models so that multiple rings can be cast from the same alloy at once.

Step 5: Casting

Casting is a complex process and requires the utmost skill and experience for a high-quality final product. In simplified terms, the ‘tree’ is placed in a steel flask which is then occupied with a slurry of ceramic powder which solidifies in an hour. The flask is then heated in an electric furnace which melts the resin or wax tree, leaving behind a cavity of all the models. Molten metal is poured into the flasks, allowed to cool, and demolished to reveal the piece in cast form.

Step 6: Finishing

Once the raw casting is removed from the casting tree, it is time for the clean-up! This involves sawing and buffing off the excess metal and casting sprues.

The ring is then tumbled, which ‘work hardens’ and smooths out the surface, and pre-polished to prepare for setting. Prior to setting, the ring undergoes a quality inspection to ensure the highest quality in both the casting and finishing.

STONE SETTING (2-3 WEEKS)

Step 7: Stone Setting

Stone setting is the process of securely setting or attaching a gemstone into the cast and prepared ring, ensuring the perfect balance and positioning of the stone/s. This skill is a true art form and takes a highly trained and experienced setter to complete the finish.

Step 8: Polishing and finishing

The piece is given a final buff and polish after setting the stones. If your piece is white gold, it will be plated in Rhodium to give it a bright, white finish.

Step 9: Quality control

Our final set of procedures ensures that our manufactured product adheres to our strict set of quality criteria.
