To ensure your jewellery remains as beautiful as the day you received it, proper care and regular maintenance are essential. This guide offers tailored advice for each material

Gold Care

Solid gold is durable but can scratch over time. Keep it away from chemicals, lotions, cleaning products, and chlorine, which can cause oxidation and brittleness. Always remove jewellery before swimming, exercising, or manual tasks, including household chores. Store pieces in a soft-lined box, separated from other jewellery, especially diamonds. The rhodium plating on white gold wears away over time; minimise polishing to slow this process. Check regularly for damage and service annually, including rhodium plating when the warmer metal begins to show.

Platinum

Platinum is a dense, durable metal but can develop a natural patina over time. Keep platinum away from chemicals, lotions, cleaning products, and chlorine, which can cause oxidation and scratching.  Always remove platinum jewellery before exercising, or doing manual tasks, including household chores. While resilient, platinum can scratch more easily than gold, so store it separately to avoid abrasion, including from diamonds.

Diamonds

Diamonds are the hardest natural material, but are not indestructible. They can still chip or break if struck with force, particularly on edges or points. Protect your diamonds from knocks by being mindful of how you wear your rings or other pieces. Store jewellery individually in its original packaging to avoid contact and scratching with other diamonds.

Gemstones & Pearls

Gemstones, including sapphires, are durable but still require care. Pearls especially are delicate and require particularly special care. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, lotions, and cleaning products. Remove pearl and gemstone jewellery before swimming, exercising, or doing household chores to prevent scratches. Clean only with a soft cloth, or gentle soap and water. Most gemstones and all pearls are unsuitable for an ultrasonic cleaner.

Chains

Store in a soft-lined box, separated from other jewellery to minimise tangling and avoid bends, dents, or kinks. Clean with a soft cloth and regularly check for damage. Note that white gold chains may require regular rhodium plating.

Service & Clean

A professional service and clean begins with a thorough check of the item's shape and condition, looking for any damage. After using an ultrasonic cleaner to remove debris, we inspect the stones and settings under stereo microscopes to ensure they’re secure and identify any wear, scratches, or dents. Necessary adjustments are made, such as straightening, polishing, or re-tightening settings. For white gold and platinum, rhodium plating is applied to restore brightness.

Annual servicing, especially for rings and tennis bracelets, helps maintain your jewellery's beauty and longevity.

We ship worldwide! Online orders are processed Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. All parcels require a signature upon delivery and include tracking and insurance whilst in transit.

We kindly ask that you choose carefully – we will be happy to assist with any questions you have about our pieces prior to placing your order. Customer satisfaction is very important to us. If you aren’t happy with your item, please contact us and we will work together to resolve the issue.

Made-To-Order

LOUISE JEAN does not issue refunds, store credit, or exchanges for any made-to-order engagement rings or wedding bands.

Ready To Wear 

LOUISE JEAN does not issue refunds for Ready-To-Wear pieces. Unworn Ready-To-Wear pieces may be exchanged within 14 days of the delivery date for store credit, minus a $150 restocking fee. If returned within 14-28 days, the fee increases to $300.

This policy does not apply to rings that have been resized. It is at the client’s expense to safely return the item to LOUISE JEAN in its original condition and packaging and within the above timeframe. A store credit will be issued to the email address used in the original order. Exchanges or credits will not be accepted outside of these conditions.

Fine Jewellery 

LOUISE JEAN Fine Jewellery pieces are non-refundable and cannot be refunded for incorrect purchases. Unworn Fine Jewellery, excluding price on application (POA) pieces, may be returned for an exchange or credit in Australia if returned in a saleable condition within 14 days of the delivery date.

It is at the client’s expense to safely return the item(s) to LOUISE JEAN in their original condition and packaging, within the above timeframe. Credits are issued in the form of gift cards and are valid for a period of three years.

LOUISE JEAN does not issue refunds, store credit, or exchanges for any bespoke fine jewellery crafted with price on application (POA). 

Home & Accessories 

Home & Accessories items may be returned for a full refund in Australia if returned unopened and unused, in a saleable condition within 14 days of the delivery date.
