About Moissanite

Moissanite Engagement Rings are one of our most popular and sought-after pieces at Louise Jean and we are here to tell you why.

What is a Moissanite?
The first natural Silicon Carbide (SiC) Moissanite mineral was discovered in 1893 in a Meteorite (literally born in the stars). Due to it’s rarity, scientists sought to recreate this extraordinary material and through the power of technology, tremendous and meticulous amounts of heat/pressure, the result was a crystallisation of the worlds most scintillating gemstones.

Introducing our signature range of Moissanites

Astral: “relating to, proceeding from, consisting of, or resembling the stars"

Astral Moissanite by Louise Jean Jewellery is a signature range of specially curated Moissanites that feature unique but traditional cuts and colours that are exclusively created by highly skilled stone cutters.  finishing with a stone with maximised light reflection and myriads of sparkle.

So what is so great about Moissanite and why are they becoming the 'Diamond alternative?'

Brilliance & appearance:

What also makes Moissanites special is their Fire and Brilliance technically speaking they have more sparkle than that of a Diamond due to a higher refractive index. Unlike other gemstones that cloud and dull with time, Moissanite's are guaranteed to never lose their optical properties and have a lower propensity to attract oil/dirt.

All Moissanites also come with a clarity rating of VVS1 or better - which means they are eye clean and inclusions (if any) will be extremely hard to find under 10x magnification.

People are now looking at more affordable alternatives to the traditional Diamond engagement piece. This is why Moissanites are becoming increasingly popular as they provide a dramatically lower price-point and flexibility - meaning you won't need to sacrifice budget in order to achieve your desired shape and size.

Durability & quality:
Affordability doesn't equate to poor quality. Moissanites measure 9.25 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness which ranks second only to Diamond, and is one of the hardest materials on Earth (even harder than a Sapphire). The Mohs scale essentially measures the ability for a mineral/gem to withstand and resist surface scratching, making the Moissanite very suitable for a Bridal or everyday piece.
Eco-friendly & Ethical
Moissanites have a minimal carbon footprint as they require no mining due to being grown in controlled laboratory environments. Their origins are completely traceable which means you will wear a stone of a the highest ethical standards.
